Nine gorgeously vintage Centralia buildings we be opened for public tours on Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. during the 12th annual Dickens of a Christmas Home Tour, which raises money for the Visiting Nurses Foundation.

Musical Tragicomedy to Start at Evergreen Playhouse
The opening night of "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along-Blog" will be at 8 p.m. Friday at the Evergreen Playhouse in Centralia.
This musical tragicomedy in three acts is directed by Sean O'Neil, Centralia.
The playhouse will be asking for a $5 donation at the door. In addition, canned food will be collected for the Lewis County Food Bank.
Performances will continue through Dec. 18. Additional information is available by calling 736-7129 or at evergreenplayhouse.org. The playhouse is located at 226 W. Center St.

'Shop Late 'Til 8'
Downtown Centralia merchants will be staying open until 8 p.m. Fridays for the next three weeks to assist Christmas shoppers.

Fort Borst Park to Become Christmas Wonderland

A spectacular display of glowing Christmas scenes will be on display in the south loop of Fort Borst Park starting Friday night.

Admission is $1 per car, plus a canned food or toy donation for local agencies.

The light show will continue Saturday and Sunday, plus Dec. 23 and 24 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. each night.

The scenes are provided by businesses, organizations and families in the community.

 


Science Fiction Writer to Speak at Writers Guild Meeting
Bill Ransom, science fiction writer and dean of curriculum at The Evergreen State College, will be guest speaker at the Lewis County Writers Guild meeting Friday at the Matrix Coffeehouse, 434 N.W. Prindle St., Chehalis.
Ransom workshop will focus on word building in fiction as well as its relationship to non-fiction. Social hour is 5 p.m., with the presentation starting at 6 p.m.

Backfire Band to Rock in New Year
The fifth annual New Year's Eve Bash will feature the Backfire Band performing at the Centralia Eagles Lodge on New Year's Eve from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Advance tickets are $10. They may be purchased at  AAG Insurance in Chehalis, Centerville Western Store in Centralia, the Centralia Eagles Club and online at www.brownpapertickets.com.
Unless sold out, tickets will be available at the door for $15. Admission is for those age 21 and up.
Backfire Band will be playing classic rock, Southern rock and country music. Members of the band are Rodney Givens, lead vocals and rhythem guitar; Jeff Andersen, vocals and lead guitar; Jim Albrect, vocals and bass guitar; and Tom Spahr, vocals and drums.
