A vendor who attended a gun show at the Southwest Washington Fairgrounds this weekend now faces reckless endangerment charges after a rifle he purchased from another seller accidentally discharged, causing a bullet to ricochet off the concrete floor and go into a display case.
Though the gun fired in a room full of people, no one was hurt, said Linda Bailey of the Chehalis Police Department. Chehalis police responded to the fairgrounds at about 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
When people bring firearms into the gun show, the guns are checked at the door to make sure they are not loaded, she said. The firearms are then secured with Zip Ties.
A vendor at the gun show, Daniel B. Macgugan, 66, of Olympia, had purchased a rifle from another seller, and, assuming the gun was not loaded, he took off the Zip Tie, Bailey said. The rifle went off, and the bullet hit the concrete floor and traveled through a display case before lodging in a book.
Macgugan was cited and released for reckless endangerment, she said.
