Lewis County Fire District No. 6 firefighters battle a structure fire on the 300 block of Spooner Road in Adna on Wednesday evening. No injuries were reported from the fire, but the blaze fully engulfed the vintage two-story farm house.
A historic Adna home burned to the ground Wednesday evening.
No one was injured in the fire, which started at the home at 377 Spooner Road just after 5 p.m.
The home, owned by Mike and Lisa Raschke, was built in 1904 on farm land less than a mile north of its current location.
Friend of the family and neighbor Casey Dotson was one of the first to arrive at the scene, and said he and Mike Raschke were able to run inside and save a few photo albums.
“It’s a complete loss,” he said of the home, “down to the ground.”
It was the childhood home of Mike Raschke, whose brother, Larry, and sister, Lana, still live nearby. The house had been located on what was formerly the Raschke family farm, but in the late 1990s Mike and Lisa Raschke moved the intact home to its present location.
Friends planned to set up a GoFundMe account online Wednesday night to help the Raschkes through the loss of their home.
Mike Raschke is the softball coach at Adna High School. He and his wife, were the only two family members living in the home.
Crews from eight fire departments responded at about 5:27 p.m., including Lewis County Fire Districts 5, 6, 11, 15 and 16, the Riverside Fire Authority, the Chehalis Fire Department and Boistfort Fire.
The cause is still under investigation, but according to officials from the Chehalis Fire Department, the fire started when the homeowner stepped away momentarily from a barbecue and returned to find the garage on fire. Raschke tried to battle the blaze with a garden hose, but quickly called fire crews.
Due to the home’s remote location, crews had to use tender trucks to haul water. According to a press release, crews remained at the scene well into the night.
