Chehalis to Showcase Renaissance Parking Plan

    The Chehalis Public Works Department will be demonstrating some of the recommended parking changes made in the city’s Renaissance Plan on Sunday.

    Weather permitting, the alterations will be made along the 200, 300 and 400 block areas of Northwest Chehalis Avenue.

    Due to the demonstration, however, Northwest Chehalis Avenue will be closed from Northwest Center Street to Northwest Pacific Avenue from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Detour routes will be posted.

Morton Auto Business Honored by Ford Motor Co.

    VanCleve Ford in Morton was set today to be honored with its 18th President’s Award from Ford Motor Co.

    Jim VanCleve, the third generation of his family to operate the automobile dealership, expected the marketing director from the carmaker’s Seattle office to present the award today.

    It’s based on customer satisfaction and sales, and is the highest honor a Ford dealer can be given, VanCleve said.



    “I guess the biggest thing is, we really care about our customers,” VanCleve said. “Like, do you do well in school, or go for the 4.0? I try to go for the 4.0 in our business,” he said.

Youth Sewing Camp to be Held Near Winlock June 22-26

    A beginning youth sewing camp, presented by Lewis County Clothing and Textile Advisors, will be held from 9 a.m. to noon from June 22 to 26 for ages 9 to 16 at St. Urban Grange, Winlock. One of the demonstrations will be how to recycle old jeans. 

    A parents meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, at St. Urban Grange. Space is limited so reserve your child’s spot early. For more information call 864-6406 or leave a message at 864-6407.

Two Summer Day Camps Offered

    There will be two day camps offered this summer by Washington State University Lewis County Extension, the Centralia Parks Department and the Centralia School District, for youth ages 9 to 14. A $25 per student fee for a supply kit will be charged and all projects are eligible to enter in the 2009 Southwest Washington Fair, 4-H Division.

    The first camp is called “It’s a Tropical Adventure” and will run from June 22 to 26, with a registration deadline of June 15.  The second camp will be held from July 20 to 24 and is called “Words of a Feather.” Registration deadline is July 16 for the second camp and both will be held at kitchen 1 and 2 at Fort Borst Park, Centralia.
