Centralia Teen in Serious Condition at Harborview Following Rollover Crash

Seventeen-year-old Centralia High School senior Brandin Spare was on his way to school when his pickup rolled in a crash that seriously injured him Thursday morning.

Harborview Medical Center spokeswoman Susan Gregg said Spare is in serious condition and remains in the intensive care unit after the wreck on Reynolds Avenue in Centralia.

According to a gofundme.com campaign aimed at raising money for his medical care, Spare is now paralyzed from the waist down.

Lewis County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said according to a witness who was driving behind him, Spare tried to pass a vehicle going the speed limit.

Spare sped up in the oncoming lane of traffic in the 600 block of Reynolds Avenue at about 7:23 a.m. The tires of his 1983 Dodge two-door pickup hit wet pavement and the back end of his truck swayed back and forth. He drove into the south ditch and rolled at least twice before the pickup stopped on the driver’s side.

The witness told deputies Spare was hanging outside the driver’s side window and could not stand. Spare had head injuries and told deputies he could not feel his legs. Riverside Fire Authority transported Spare to Providence Centralia Hospital. He was then airlifted to Harborview in Seattle, Brown said.

The pickup was totaled and towed from the scene.

As of 3 p.m. Friday, the gofundme.com campaign “Brandin Spare Medical Support Fund” had raised $255 of its $5,000 goal.
