Port of Olympia Invests in Tenino, Bucoda Projects

The Port of Olympia will give a boost to projects in small Thurston County cities for the sixth year in a row.

Earlier this month, the commission approved funding matches for economic development projects in Tenino, Bucoda, Rainier and Yelm at $10,000 each.

Under this scope, small cities are defined as incorporated cities within the county with a population of 10,000 or less.

Earlier, the Board of Directors of the Port Economic Development Corporation reviewed an analysis prepared by Finance Director Jeff Smith of the cities’ applications. The board qualified the eligibility of the projects and recommended the commission approve the funding awards.

The Small Cities Program funds will assist Tenino visitors and residents by installing directional signage to places of interest and commerce, barbecues in the campgrounds, coin-operated showers at the city park and benches along the sidewalks in the historic district.

Funding for Bucoda will continue the renovation of the historic Oddfellows Building into a community center that will serve both residents and visitors. Also included is the purchase and installation of an emergency generator.
