Fire Destroys Weyerhaeuser Home, Vehicle in Southwest Thurston County

Fire destroyed a home between Littlerock and Rochester Monday afternoon, the West Thurston Regional Fire Authority reported.

In a press release, Lieutenant Lanette Dyer said the blaze destroyed a home and a vehicle in the 8800 block of Gate Road Southwest. Firefighters responded just before 12:30 p.m. and found the home engulfed in flames, with fire burning a car next to the home as well.

Dyer said the home, owned by Weyerhaeuser and near their Mima/Gate Road Nursery, was home to one person. That person, however, was not home at the time of the fire.

West Thurston firefighters called for assistance, and several districts sent manpower to the scene; fire crews responded from East Olympia, McLane/Black Lake, Gibson Valley, Tenino and Griffin. Riverside Fire Authority in Centralia assisted with medical call coverage while crews fought the blaze.

Dyer said the home, its contents and the vehicle that burned are a total loss. Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the blaze.
