County Tourism Promotion Funding Awarded to Three Applicants

Lewis County commissioners on Monday voted unanimously to award $59,500 in tourism promotion funding to three applicants with the intent of promoting agritourism in the area.

Lewis County government was awarded $55,000; the Onalaska Alliance was given $1,500; and Destination Packwood will receive $3,000 as part of the funding.

The Tourism Promotion Fund is funded through state retail sales tax dollars collected on lodging in Lewis County. An advisory board helped provide recommendations to the county commission as to where the money should be awarded.

Edna Fund, chairwoman for the Board of County Commissioners, stated the funding would largely be used to create a website and perform outreach via social media to promote agritourism. The agritourism push is part of an effort by the county to connect tourism activities with the area’s agricultural roots.
