Red Hat Ladies Send Christmas Cheer to Overseas Military

A local chapter of the Red Hat Society is helping members of the U.S. Navy have a merrier Christmas this year. For the second year, the fifteen members of the Razzle Dazzle Divas made Christmas cards for military members.

This year, the women, who all hail from Lewis County, made 1,500 cards by hand. They began their work in the summer.

“We wanted to let the military know that we are backing them and that we appreciate everything they do for us,” Carol White, the “Queen” of the chapter, said.

Chehalis resident Anita Webster is the “Vice-Queen” of the group. Her step-daughter, Michelle Taylor, is a Naval aircrewman who has been stationed in Bahrain since June 2009. The Red Hatters decided to send the cards to Taylor to pass out.

In an e-mail, Taylor said the cards were shipped in seven large flat-rate boxes. Ten cards were given to individual members to send to family and friends. She said there was also a separate box of “Thank you for your service” cards for members.

“The Base Exchange has a small selection (of cards), but I think people enjoy a homemade card with a personal touch rather than a generic card,” Taylor said.

Taylor said all of the cards were handed out within two hours.
