Programs on Healthy Lifestyles Coming to Oakville Library

The Oakville Timberland Library, in partnership with the city of Oakville and the Chehalis Tribe, is presenting a six-week series of programs on creating a healthy lifestyle. The programs will take place every Thursday starting at 5:30 p.m. through Sept. 4 at the Oakville Methodist Church, 204 Harris St. The programs are as follows:

Aug. 7 — Labels, Leadville and Lore: Author Douglas Rhoades will speak on reading food labels and how labels have changed our history. The first 20 people will receive a copy of his book, “Labels, Leadville and Lore.”

Aug. 14 — Beliefs, Attitudes and Emotional Eating: Deborah Baker will discuss how our minds sabotage our health and offer techniques to manage these internal triggers. The first 20 people will receive a copy of her book, “101 Great Ways to Improve your Life,” vol. 2.

Aug. 21 — Juicing and Smoothies: Join in a presentation and discussion with registered dietitian Patricia Odiorne.There will be a free screening for blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure. 

Aug. 28 — Seasonal Canning: Mary Sanders will present an introduction to canning and offer tips for preserving fresh foods. Participants will receive samples to take home.



Sept. 4 — Diabetes, Caring from the Inside Out: Registered dietitian Patricia Odiorne will discuss the disease, its risks and strategies for prevention. Participants will learn a diabetes-friendly recipe and take home healthy ingredients.
