Adna Barn a Total Loss After Wednesday Fire

Posted

A barn on Curtis Hill Road in Adna was destroyed in a fire Wednesday afternoon.

Crews from Lewis County Fire Districts 5, 6, 13 and the Chehalis Fire Department responded to the blaze at about 4 p.m. after initial reports indicated a possible residential structure fire.

When they arrived to the 100 block of Curtis Hill Road, they found a 40-by-30-foot barn fully involved in flames. Crews had the fire under control in about seven minutes, according to a press release.

“The barn, its contents and small chicken coop were a total loss,” according to the release from Lewis County Fire District 6. “The barn stored general farm tools and equipment, including a tractor. There was also heavy fire and smoke damage to a nearby pump house.”

One Fire District 6 firefighter was transported to Providence Centralia Hospital for chemical exposure during the mop-up phase. It was unknown to crews and the owner what the substance was that caused the reaction. The firefighter was treated and released before returning to duty.

Curtis Hill Road was closed for about an hour in both directions as crews battled the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Chehalis Fire Department.

The owner was still working on calculating the estimated losses due to the fire Wednesday night.
