Centralia High School has named its new assistant principal, who will start in her position on July 1.

Washington Elementary sixth-grade teacher Kristeen Johnson accepted the position after the Centralia School Board approved her hiring during its Wednesday night meeting, according to a press release from the district.

Johnson comes to the high school with a wealth of teaching, school activity and student leadership experience in education. She has taught at the district since 2001, and prior to that, spent time in the Ocean Beach and Shoreline school districts.

“Ms. Johnson will be a great addition to the administrative team at CHS,” Centralia High School Principal Josue Lowe said.  “Her teaching and student leadership experience will serve the Centralia High School students, staff and parents in a positive and productive manner.  We are excited to have her join the CHS family.”

Johnson said she is grateful for the opportunity to use her background in student leadership and to work at the high school.

“I am thrilled to be a part of the CHS team and to contribute to the continued growth of the school,” she said.

Washington Elementary Principal Danielle Vekich said Johnson has been an outstanding lead teacher for the past six years. She added that Johnson has been the sixth-grade Professional Learning Community leader and a building leadership team member for three years.

Johnson has also served as the co-director for Camp Cispus for 10 years.

“Kristeen has a passion for inspiring students to explore leadership opportunities,” Vekich said in the release. “We will miss her positive attitude and energy, but we are exceedingly proud that she will still be a Tiger.”

Johnson will fill the position of current assistant principal Ellen Termine, who is retiring at the end of June.
