Rochester Barn Destroyed by Fire

A large barn was completely destroyed by fire Thursday morning in Rochester, with multiple units from different departments arriving on scene to combat the blaze located in an area with no municipal water supply.

Nobody was injured during the fire, and the building — located on Buck Road just off Lincoln Creek Road — was unoccupied at the time, according to the Riverside Fire Authority.

First responders were alerted at 1:45 a.m. Thursday, with a call saying that a 300-by-30-foot barn was up in flames. RFA responded and called for water tender trucks from West Thurston Regional Fire, South Thurston Fire, Grays Harbor Fire District 1 and Lewis County fire districts 6 and 13.

Firefighters ensured the fire didn’t spread to a nearby poultry barn and two houses. The fire was confined to the building of origin, which was a total loss, according to an RFA press release. A pickup truck also burned.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Lewis County Fire Marshal’s Office.
