Two interlocal prisoner housing agreements were approved at Monday’s Board of County Commissioners meeting.

The agreements are between the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office and the Olympia City Jail.

Both agreements are non-expiring with an annual renewal required by amendment. The commissioners voted to extend the existing contracts an additional year, ending Dec. 31, 2016.

Kevin Hanson, Lewis County corrections chief, said the renewal includes an increase of 15 percent to the daily bed rate, raising it to a new rate of $60.88.

The Thurston County contract remained unchanged and is projected to produce $195,000 for 2016.

The Olympia City Jail contract provides for an annual revenue increase of approximately $11,000, with the total revenue for 2016 estimated at $355,539. At Olympia’s request, Hanson said, there was a reduction of 730 annual bed days.

Both contracts include new language to comply with the Prison Rape Elimination Act.
