Firefighters Respond to House Fire in Centralia

Fire crews are not yet sure what started a house fire that caused extensive damage to a vacant home on North Tower Avenue Tuesday afternoon.

Riverside Fire Authority and Chehalis Fire Department crews responded at about 2:10 p.m. Tuesday afternoon to a report of a house fire in the 900 block of North Tower Avenue in Centralia.

Upon arrival, crews found the back porch and rear section of a house at 924 North Tower Avenue fully involved in flames, said Assistant Chief Rick Mack, of the RFA.

Mack told The Chronicle the house was vacant and the power had been disconnected at the time of the fire.

The road was closed to traffic as crews battled the fire.

Mack said it is too early to say what caused the fire, but with a vacant house, investigators always consider the possibility that transients were using it for shelter.

At about 2:30 p.m., firefighters broke into an adjacent home that appeared to be threatened by the fire. Mack said the fire has not spread.
