Detectives from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office are investigating whether human remains located Wednesday in the Cowlitz River belong to a Des Moines man missing since early this year.

Prathana Nammavong, a 43-year-old Des Moines man, was reported missing in January. He was last known to be fishing on the Cowlitz River near Blue Creek.

At 1:08 p.m. on Wednesday, anglers on a guide boat reported they were fishing on the Cowlitz River near the Mandy Road Boat Launch in Toledo when they saw “what appeared to be fishing waders caught on a branch in the water,” according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arrived and found human remains. They and the guide boat brought the remains to the river’s shore at the boat launch.

Sheriff’s Office personnel and the Lewis County Coroner’s Office are investigating the cause and manner of death, as well as the identity of the deceased.

The Sheriff’s Office is requesting that anybody with information about the human remains contact the Sheriff’s Office at 360-748-9286.
