Longtime Mossyrock resident Frank Brown has received one of the highest honors offered by the Bonneville Power Administration as part of the Administrator’s Excellence Awards program.

Brown, a public utilities specialist working out of the BPA’s office in Seattle, was given the Administrator's Meritorious Service Award. The award recognizes people who have made extraordinary contributions in their field to BPA’s mission.

According to a press release, the annual program honors employees and citizens who’ve made exceptional contributions to BPA’s mission, the electric industry, or to the community through innovation, initiative, superior service or courageous acts.

Brown has more than 30 years of federal service, including more than 20 at BPA, behind him. He has a legacy of award-winning projects. He is singlehandedly responsible for more energy savings than any other BPA employee, the release said. Brown served as the manager of the Federal Agency Energy Efficiency Program and partnered with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation on a project to upgrade lights at the Grand Coulee Dam to save nearly 9 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually.

BPA also won three Federal Energy Management Awards and a government-wide Federal Energy and Water Management Award, and also shared the Secretary of the Navy’s Energy and Water Management Award under his leadership.

BPA is a federal power marketing administration under the U.S. Department of Energy.
