Unofficial Numbers Show Toledo Levy as Approved

Voters approved a four-year replacement maintenance and operations levy at the Toledo School District, a measure which received a 54.67 approval rating.

The levy is valued at $1.1 million and is projected to cost taxpayers $2.38 per $1,000 in assessed property value. Toledo School District Superintendent Sharon Bower said the district requested to increase the total amount of money they would ask voters for in an attempt to address some of the more pressing needs that would have been addressed by a bond measure that failed last year.

“We had some maintenance issues in the bond, but since that didn’t pass we needed to find a way to take care of them,” Bower said by phone Tuesday evening. “We’ll probably start working on them this spring.”

Two major issues Bower pointed to were the need to replace the roof at Toledo Middle School and to bring the system that delivers water to Toledo High School up to code.

“The city has been patient knowing that’s a big undertaking,” Bower said. “We’re thankful these can get going.”

The funds won’t be available until 2016, Bower said, but preliminary work on design and engineering can start as soon as the district wishes it to.

Bower thanked the voters in the district for their support and recognition of the pressing facility needs of the district.

“The Toledo community has been so supportive of kids and their future,” Bower said.
