WSDOT to close lanes of I-5 in Lewis County while crews inspect and clean Skookumchuck, Cowlitz river bridges

The Skookumchuck Bridge and the Cowlitz River Bridge on Interstate 5 in Lewis County will see overnight lane closures next week as Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) bridge maintenance crews work to wash and inspect the bridges.

“This work will be done at night to reduce traffic impacts and will require single-lane and full closures for travelers’ safety,” WSDOT said in a news release.

All northbound lanes of I-5 will be closed at the Skookumchuck Bridge from 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23, to 5 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 24. All southbound lanes of I-5 will be closed at the Skookumchuck Bridge from 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 24, to 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25.

The Skookumchuck Bridge is located at milepost 82.2 in Centralia.

One northbound lane of I-5 will be closed at the Cowlitz River Bridge from 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25, to 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26. One southbound lane of I-5 will be closed at the Cowlitz River Bridge from 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26, to 5 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27.



The Cowlitz River Bridge is located at milepost 59 near Toledo and Vader.

One lane of the Cowlitz River Bridge will remain open during bridge washing and inspections, according to WSDOT.

“Travelers are reminded to slow down through work zones, stay focused, be patient, and follow the directions from road crews,” WSDOT said in a news release.
