WSDOT plans nighttime work on I-5 between Grand Mound and Olympia

Posted

Motorists who use Interstate 5 between Grand Mound and Olympia will want to plan extra travel time during overnight hours Friday, Aug. 2, through Friday, Aug. 9, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).

Contractor crews working for WSDOT will work on small sections of I-5 each night. Work will occur in both northbound and southbound directions.

"This work helps preserve the highway surface for years to come, reducing overall roadway maintenance,” WSDOT stated in a news release.

I-5 will be reduced to a single lane between milepost 85.5 to milepost 89 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. in the northbound lanes and from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. in the southbound lanes.

Travelers will also see temporary ramp closures at I-5 and Old Highway 99. Speed limits will be reduced through the work zones.

This work is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled.
