The Black Hills boys wrestling team dominated Centralia in a 2A EvCo dual Wednesday in the Hub City, winning 55-11 with two forfeits.
The Wolves got pins from Anthony Estrada (157) Hunter Faught (175) and JJ Oraya (190), before Ryan Babel came to the mat for the final match of the night at 215, against fellow freshman Lucas Merrill under the solo light at Ron Brown Court
“It had the whole gym excited,” Black Hills coach Jason Dick said. “Everyone was on their feet, excited for these two young men to wrestle.”
Babel pulled out the pin in 1:41, capping the Wolves’ dominant day.
Connor Mounts (132) won his match by major decision, while Cash Boos (126), Jose Fockler (138) and Ammon Combs (165) won by minor decisions.
Centralia’s two wins came from Antonio Campos, who won by technical fall at 120 in the first match of the night, and by Dashba Denetclaw, who won by fall at 150.
On the girls’ side of things, Centralia took four of the seven matches, with Eva Reinitz (120), Makayla Irons (125), Jayden Krogness (140) and Anna Blankenship (145) all winning by pin. Eden Combs (120), Averie Reynolds (120) and Wren Necklason (130) winning for Black Hills.
WFW girls take eight of 12 vs. Tumwater
The W.F. West girls wrestling team won two-thirds of the matchups on offer Wednesday night at home against Tumwater.
Eden Hornby, Kylee Breen, Berkeley Varick, Lia Hornby, Emily Mallonee, Bailey Simper andKD Obtinario all won by pin, while Gale Steiner won her match by decision.
“Tonight we were able to get many of our girls matches,” WFW coach Matt Patana said. “We have to choose who gets to compete with our large team but we try to mix it up. We look forward to seeing our whole team to get matches in the weeks to come.”
