Wolves Sweep Short-Staffed Tigers

The Black Hills volleyball team took care of business on the road Tuesday, sweeping a Centralia team lacking a few key pieces 25-13, 25-15, 25-9.

Alex Loveless dished out 28 assists for the Wolves, directing an offense led by Ashley Harris, who had nine kills, and Claire Johnson, who put up seven.

Payton Childers led the Black Hills net defense with three blocks, while libero Lily Bauer had a team-high seven digs to go along with three aces.

Gracie Schofield led Centralia with 13 digs.

Lauren Wasson had 10 digs for the Tigers, many of which came in the serve-receive game.

“They really keyed in on her serving, and she responded well,” Centralia coach Marti Smith said.

Senior setter Peyton Smith had 10 assists, three block assists, and five digs, as well as logging a perfect serving outing.

Missing a couple of starters and coming off a long break following a bye, Smith said the focus for the Tigers went more toward the mental and inward-focused side of things. Put on the backfoot against a hard-swinging Black Hills side, Centralia had to play a lot of defense, but lacking some of the normal offensive outlets in its lineup, struggled to translate digs into points.

“It’s hard, because there were definitely some real positives that came out of tonight, they just aren’t reflected in the score,” Smith said.

Black Hills will take on Shelton in a road matchup Thursday, while Centralia will host Aberdeen.
