Wolves Hold Off Late Rally to Defeat Tigers

In what is being counted as a non-league contest between 2A Evergreen Conference opponents, the Black Hills baseball team defeated Centralia at Wheeler Field Friday afternoon, 9-6.

The Tigers loaded the bases down by three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but hit into a double play to end the threat, and a chance at stealing a win at home.

“We fought the whole way,” Tigers coach Jake LeDuc said. “It was not the cleanest game for either of us.”

The Wolves were led by a quartet of multi-hit days from Max Johnson, Braiden Bond, Blake Klinger, and Parker Termini, with each recording two hits. On the mound, Termini threw a solid first three innings, giving up just one unearned run on two hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Mark Otto, Orion Pate, and Truman Wimsett finished out the game, combining for five strikeouts.

The Tigers had just two hits, but took advantage of six costly Wolves errors to score runs. Landen Jenkins and Carlos Vallejo each recorded a hit, and Gabe Seymour drew three walks and scored a run in a disciplined game at the dish.

John Leedy had a solid start on the mound for Centralia, allowing seven runs with five earned on eight hits with six more strikeouts. Brady Sprague stepped in to pitch the last two innings, giving up two unearned runs on a hit and three walks with a punchout.

“We were a little down on pitching, but John Leedy threw very well for us,” LeDuc said. “He had a tough first inning where they didn’t hit much hard but they found holes, but after that he settled in.”

Centralia will play host to W.F. West for its next game on Monday while Black Hills hosts Tumwater in a couple of crosstown rivalry matchups.
