Wolves Fall in Extra Innings to Highclimbers

The Black Hills softball team saw a strong start outdone by a tough finish, falling to Shelton, 9-6, in extra innings Friday at home.

The Wolves blitzed the Highclimbers early, scoring all six of their runs in the first three innings — thanks to a 2 for 4, 3-RBI day from Ella Goheen and two runs and an RBI from Elena Jones — but saw that lead evaporate in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings.

The Highclimbers used a three-run seventh inning to tie it up and force extras, and after back-to-back no-run innings from the Wolves in the seventh and eighth, another three-run eighth for the Highclimbers spelled doom for Black Hills.

Zoey Theophilus pitched all eight innings for the Wolves with 13 strikeouts, all nine runs earned and five walks.

The Wolves play at W.F. West for their next matchup on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
