A 67-year-old Winlock man who was recently released from custody on assault and reckless burning charges is now accused of killing a goat and violating a protection order.
Police found William G. Kral on Friday next to a dead goat in the 900 block of Byham Road in Winlock. The goat was not his, but reportedly owned by someone he was staying with, according to court documents.
He was arrested on charges of third-degree malicious mischief, residential burglary and protection order violation.
During his preliminary hearing on Monday afternoon, his defense attorney requested a competency evaluation as Kral, who seemed rather incoherent, saying he didn’t understand the charges requested against him.
The presiding judge allowed for the competency evaluation, which will be done Thursday. His bail was set at $25,000 cash or bond.
Charges stem from an incident that occurred Friday, Aug. 13. Lewis County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of an animal killing, according to court documents. When deputies arrived, they found Kral and the dead goat outside near a shed. Police reports didn’t detail the manner in which Kral was alleged to have killed the goat.
The goat reportedly belonged to a woman who lives on the property. She told police Kral did not have permission to kill her goat. Police later discovered Kral had a no-contact order with another woman who lived on the property with them.
Kral was also awaiting a competency review from Western State Hospital for charges he’d previously been booked on.
