Winlock Comes Back to Beat Owls

Turning on the jets in the second half, the Winlock girls basketball team needed every bucket it got late in a 39-27 win over Mary M Knight Saturday afternoon in a non-league matchup.

The Cardinals trailed by two at the half, but scored in double-digits in the final two frames and held the Owls to just one fourth quarter point in the victory.

“After a slow first half start the team turned it around in the second half,” Cardinals coach Dracy McCoy said. “(Kindyl) Kelly and (Kiya) Peppers both had double-doubles and Adriana Garcia was a big spark in the second half, scoring all of her 9 points during this time frame.”

Kelly led the way with 15 points and 10 boards while Peppers added 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Cardinals play Three Rivers Christian next on Tuesday at home.
