Runners from around Lewis County came to Toledo on Thursday, racing around Ted Hippi Field, through the Oak Grove and around Toledo High School’s grounds in a 2B/1A meet.
Tenino came away in first place as a team in both races, and junior Brynn Williams won the girls’ race by over a minute in 23:03. Behind her, teammate Samantha Smith held second for most of the race, but Winlock’s Victoria Sancho overcame her in a dead sprint over the final 100 meters to finish a second in front of her at 24:17.
Behind Smith, Tenino’s Haley Huber came in fourth at 24:44, Taylor Henry was 10th at 30:40, and Aurora Johnson was 13th in 34:03 to round out the Beavers’ team card.
Mossyrock’s Joan Wedam was fifth in 25:15. Morton-White Pass was led by Hope Whitney (26:50) in seventh.
Toledo’s Treyton Marty won the 5,000-meter boys’ race in as dominant a fashion as Williams won the girls’ placing first in 17:20. Behind him, Tenino’s Tristan Von Bargen (18:33) was second, Winlock’s Chase Trodahl (18:36) was third and MWP’s Hunter Brackett (19:02) was fourth.
Tenino took the boys’ team crown thanks to a pack of Beavers coming home in a row; Jayden Merritt (20:29) was eighth, Peter Hilton (20:39) was ninth, Carter Mounts (21:02) was 10th and Sevrin Mickelson (21:24) was 12th.
Mossyrock’s Ethan Wedam led the Mossyrock boys’ contingent with a time of 21:47 to place 14th.
