W.F. West’s Eklund Finishes 10th at State Golf Championships

After finishing 28th a year ago with a two-day score of 186, perhaps no area athlete had a larger jump at the state tournament in a year’s span than W.F. West’s Natalie Eklund.

In the 2023 rendition of the 2A Girls Golf Championships at MeadowWood Golf Course in Liberty Lake, the junior Bearcat had a two-day score of 164 — a 22-stroke improvement from 2022 — after carding an 83 on Day 1 of the tournament and an 81 on Wednesday near the Idaho border.

Eklund’s score was good for 10th in the state.

Centralia’s Samantha Johnston, who made the cut yesterday by carding a 92, had a tougher go of it on Wednesday with a 109 to bring her two-day score to 201.

Cedarcrest’s Charlotte Giffin won the state title by seven strokes, finishing with a two-day score of 138, carding a 69 both days.
