With just two locals left standing in the 2A Girls Golf Championships at MeadowWood Golf Course in Liberty Lake, both W.F. West’s Natalie Eklund and Centralia’s Samantha Johnston will get to compete on the final day of the season for their respective squads after strong rounds Tuesday afternoon.

Eklund, the 2A District 4 champion last week at Tumwater Valley, carded an 83, good for 10th in the current standings and 14 strokes back of the leader: Charlotte Giffin of Cedarcrest with a 69.

Eklund will tee off on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. hoping to improve her score and climb higher in the standings.

The other local qualifier was Centralia’s Johnston, who shot a 92 to live to golf another day. She’s currently in 26th, and will tee off Wednesday at 7:36 a.m. hoping to improve her score.

With a cutoff score of 96 to advance to the second day, several area athletes got close, but missed out on the final day of golf action across the state.

W.F. West sent four total golfers to the event, with just Eklund getting through among the top-40. Grace Oien finished just two strokes back of the cut at 98, Kendall Rasmussen carded a 102, and Macee Shannon finished with a 119.

Rochester sent a pair of golfers to state, with Isabella Masias finishing with a 105 and Audrey Williams with a 112. The last local state participant was Black Hills’ Ellie Johnson, who carded a 103.
