W.F. West Shines at Home Meet With Tigers, Warriors, Vikings

Playing host to three other local squads in Rochester, Centralia, and Mossyrock, the W.F. West boys and girls track and field teams took home wins at Bearcat Stadium Wednesday afternoon in Chehalis. 

On the boys side, the Bearcats won nine total events to Centralia’s four, Rochester’s three, and Mossyrock’s one. 

Declan McDonald was a triple-winner of W.F. West, winning the 100-meter dash in 11.38, the 200m in 24.46, and the long jump with an 18 foot, 6.5 inch leap. 

Elsewhere on the track, Emmett Imboden won both hurdle events, timing the 110m hurdles at 17.24 and the 300m hurdles 46.51. Hayden Niemi also took home a win in the 400 with a 56.33-second burst. 

On the field, Lucas Hoff had another strong day, winning the javelin with an 154-foot heave and recording a personal best in the pole vault, clearing 13 feet, 6 inches. Ben Wirkkala rounded out the Bearcat boy winners with a 5 foot, 6 inch clearance in the high jump. 

Mossyrock’s lone winner came in the 800m, when Christian Paz Tapia outdistanced his competitors in a 2:14.91 jaunt. 

Centralia had some strong showings, with Devin Harrison taking home wins in both long distance races, earning a victory in the 1600 meters in 4:41.06 and the 3200m in 10:25.66. 

The Tiger boys’ 4x400-meter relay of Eli Baldwin, Adam Leon, Evan Thummel and Harrison won in 4:03.89, and the lone field event winner for Centralia came from William Stinkeaway’s 126 foot, 7 inch throw in the discus. 

Rochester won three events, headlined by a 4x100-meter relay win from Noah Meckle, Ashton Rodriguez, Dominic Delgado, and Tristan Nelson in 46.58. Jaden Nichols also won in the shot put with a 41 foot, 10 inch heave and Parker Mcaferty won the triple jump with a 37 foot, 5 inch hop, step, and jump. 

On the girls side, W.F. West won 10 events, Rochester won five, and Mossyrock won three. 

The Bearcats were led on the track by two individual wins and two relay contributions from Emily Mallonee, who again swept the hurdle events with a 19.02 win in the 100-meter hurdles and a 52.86 win in the 300m hurdles. Mallonee also ran the third leg in each of the winning 4x200-meter and the 4x400-meter relay teams. 

The 4x200 winning relay of Lauren Kelly, Kaija Economou, Mallonee, and Amanda Bennett won in 1:55.16, and the 4x400 team of Economou, Leslie Morales, Mallonee, and Bennett won in 4:45.41. 

Elsewhere on the track, Kelley took home a win in the 100m (14.19), and Mercedes Ricks won the 800m (2:58.86) and the 1600m (6:26.72). 

In field events, Ariana Wheaton won the high jump (4 feet, 6 inches), Shelby Hazlett won the pole vault (7 feet), and Morales won the long jump (14 feet, 9 inches).

Rochester was led on the field by Emily Weddle’s double win in the shot put (34 feet, 5.5 inches) and discus (94 feet, 10 inches), and Kya Ubias in the triple jump (28 feet, 7.5 inches). While Kailyn Black took home a win in the 200 (29.89) and Mercedies Dupont won the 400m in 1:04.10. 

Mossyrock took home two wins on the track, with Joan Wedam the lone individual winner in the 3200m (14:07.18), and the Vikings’ 4x400 winning, composed of Leah Contreras, Renzy Marshall, Caelyn Marshall, and Paige Houghtelling (55.87). 

Caelyn Marshall also took home an individual win in the javelin (117 feet, 7 inches). 



T-Birds Dominate Dual Meet with Bobcats

Winning all by a few events, the Tumwater boys and girls track and field teams handily defeated Aberdeen Wednesday afternoon at Tumwater District Stadium. 

The boys won 12 events, led by John Hoffer’s double win in a couple of distance races, winning the 800 meters in 2:03.28 and the 3200m in 10:15.20. 

Jayden Thomas also took home a pair of wins, sweeping the hurdle events with a win in the 110m hurdles (16.72) and 300m hurdles (43.27). 

Christian Schlecht also won the 100 (11.37), Reis Howell won the 400 (53.13), Malijah Tucker won the javelin (153 feet, 9 inches), Aaron Paul won the high jump (5 feet, 4 inches), Orion Haury won the pole vault (8 feet, 6 inches), and Makhi Odoms won the long jump (21 feet). 

The Thunderbirds also swept the boys relays, with Schlecht, Blake Kirkpatrick, Payton LaGuerre and Odoms winning the 4x100-meter relay in 45.82, and Brady Bryant, Cash Short, Reid Crumley and Howell winning the 4x400 in 3:38.27. 

The girls won every event save for two, led by some dominant performances. 

Mariah Jett won the 100 in 13.50, Aneila Sheppard won the 200 in 30.30, Ava Jones won the 400 in 1:04.04, Selly Beyene won the 800 in 2:39.99, Anabelle Clapp won the 1600 in 5:54.57, Olivia Ahrens won the 3200 in 12:18.16, Kennedy Reidl won the 100m hurdles in 19.16, and Audrey Strand won the 300m hurdles in 55.51 to round out individual events running events. 

The T-Birds swept the three relays, with Jett, Rhylee Beebe, Reidl, and Cassidy Hedin winning the 4x100 in 56.05, Clapp, Reese Heryford, Jones, and Hedin winning the 4x200 in 1:45.53, and Beebe, Clapp, Heryford, and Jones winning the 4x400 in 4:18.50. 

On the field, McKayla Clary won the shot put with a 31 foot, 1.5 inch toss, and the javelin with a 94 foot, 8 inch heave. 

Paige Henderson won the discus (75 feet, 6 inches), Rizalina Johnson won the pole vault (7 feet, 6 inches), and Kaila Fisher won the triple jump (29 feet, 6.25 inches). 

Riverhawks Perform Well at Longview Memorial 

Making the short drive south, the Toledo boys and girls track teams did well at a 2A meet at Longview Memorial Stadium Wednesday afternoon. 

The boys finished with six event wins, headlined by Treyton Marty’s double-win in the 1600 (4:50.21) and 3200 (10:52.05), and a pair of wins from Zack Smith in the 110m hurdles (17.27) and long jump (18 feet, 1 inch). 

Additionally, Jordan Mckenzie won the 400 in 52.26 and Adam Kruger took home a win in the triple jump with a 35 foot, 2 inch hop, step, and jump. 

The girls finished without a winner, but Jasmine Kemmerer finished fourth in both the 200 (29.91) and 300m hurdles (58.96), and Lyndzie Filla was second in the javelin with an 89 foot, 7 inch heave.
