W.F. West Puts in Good Performance At Shelton

Highlighted by a record number of boys under the 20 minute mark, the W.F. West cross country team had a good day against Shelton Wednesday.

Henry Jordan led a good group of Bearcat runners, running a 17:42 in a third place effort behind two Shelton runners. Behind him, Jaysen Miles (18:21), Damian Carroll (18:31) and Austin Adams (18:52) also finished in the top-10.

For the girls, freshman Mercedes Ricks ran a 21:00, good for third behind two Highclimbers.

W.F. West coach Amber Cruzan commended the runs of her two freshman, Ricks and Carroll, after good races Wednesday.

“They both started out conservative in the first mile, while I like to call being patient,” she said. “Then they eased their way up to passing others during the next two miles. I’m really proud of the work they have both done to get to this point in the season.”

W.F. West will take on Aberdeen next for a league meet next week, before Districts on the Oct. 28.
