The W.F. West girls wrestling team spread 27 wins across a loaded weekend at home, with 13 wrestlers hitting the mat at the Bearcat Girls Invite.
Six Bearcats finished their individual slates undefeated. Emily Mallonee went 3-0 with a trio of pins at 125, as did Brooke Johnston (130), Aurora Martin (135), and Bailey Simper (190). Shelby Bazlett (130) went a perfect 3-0 with a pin, while Courtney Jones (140) went 2-0 with two.
All 13 Bearcats to participate won at least one of their matches, and logged at least one pin.
W.F. West will be back in action next Saturday at Aberdeen, meeting up with Elma and Hoquiam.
Adna’s Hartley wins at La Center
Punching up against a field of larger schools, Adna sophomore Cohen Hartley came away with a first-place finish at the La Center Wildcat Invitational, beating the field at 120 pounds.
“This is a large tournament with a lot of bigger schools, so it's always great to come down and compete with these teams that we normally don't see,” Adna coach Craig Ferrier said. “We worked on a lot of things after our first tournament in Ocosta last week and it really showed. I was particularly pleased with having both of our 120-pounders in the finals, and Cohen Hartley especially wrestled very well on his way to the championship.”
Hartley beat teammate Cameron Thomas, who himself worked his way through the 120-pound bracket, in the finals.
Junior Jacob Price finished fourth at 170.
Also on the Clark County mats, Tenino took sixth overall.
Randy Marti led the Beavers with a second-place finish at 195, and Kysen Knox (170) and Andres Capilla-Zamudio (285) each finished third.
Ethan Elliot earned his first pin, and after battling illness last week, Brock Maurer came back and had a strong performance as well.
The Beavers next head to Aberdeen for more wrestling action, while Adna will get back a break before taking on Napavine in two weeks.
