Weekend wrestling roundup: Pe Ell’s Noble victorious in Astoria

The Pe Ell wrestling team headed south to Astoria, Oregon on Saturday, and the Trojans finished sixth out of 19 teams at the Knappa Winter Bash.

Ethen Noble led the way by winning at 175, going 4-0 with a tech fall and three pins, including a pin in the championship match.

“He executed really well,” Pe Ell coach Toneil Magruder said. “It was a hard fought day.”

Ethan Faulkner (132) placed third, Dallas McGrath (150) finished fourth, and Hunter Harris (194) also took fourth in his weight class.

Two female Trojans also placed, with Peyton Pilz (170) taking second and Madison Person (135) finishing third.

“I’m very proud of the way everybody wrestled,” Magruder said. “We had to fight back a lot to be able to get into positioning … It was a tough bracket.”

On Tuesday, the Trojans will go to Forks for a mixer before going to Raymond for a tournament on Saturday.

W.F. West victorious at Curtis Ragnarok Invite

The W.F. West wrestling team came out on top in University Place on Saturday, finishing first out of 12 teams at the Curtis Ragnarok Invite.

Five Bearcats — Race Scalici (144), Graysen Serl (157), Andrew Snyder (165), Kage Homan (175), and Tucker Land (190) — won their brackets, while Beau Guyetter (150) took second and Ryker Jensen (106) finished fourth.

The Bearcats will be back at home on Wednesday for a dual against Aberdeen.

TCWC has 13 winners at Thurston County Folkstyle Tournament

The Twin City Wrestling Club won their third tournament of the year on Sunday, taking first place at the Washington State Wrestling Association’s Thurston County Folkstyle Tournament.

Thirteen wrestlers came away victorious in their respective age and weight classes: Jackson Coleman (6U-53), Luke Vizgaudis (8U-53), Zayvynn Sanders (10U-49), Julian Jones (10U-59), Kash Davis (10U-63), Cohen Jewell (10U-84), Adalina Nommensen (Girls 3rd-5th-67), Grayson Day (12U-74), Kevin Estrada Jr. (14U-80), Kaiden Coates (14U-131), Anna Porter (Girls 6th-8th-77), Elijah Day (USA Jr-157), and Michael Rich (12U-86).



Eighteen more came in second: Kaiden Arias (8U-49), Talmai Houk (8U-53), Colt Miller (8U-56), Remington Giese (8U-85), Emberly Sharp (Girls K-2 41-45), Charlotte Porter (Girls K-2 45-47), Isabella Nelson (Girls K-2 51-52), Colt Miller (10U-56), Jace Hanson (10U-71), Beau Babka (10U-77), Hunter Rice (10U-93), Kylie Stafford (Girls 3rd-5th-92), Tate Johnson (12U-78), Gunnar Olson (12U-100), Nicholas Schultz (12U-115), Jameson Mays (10U-67), Hunter Fulwider (14U-80), and Parker Daniel (U14 110).

Sixteen others finished third: Judah Gonzalez (8U-45), Ryker Parsons (8U-49), Chase Phillips (8U-53), Finn Ankeny (8U-62, Ophilea Cortes (8U-85, Adaline Tyring (Girls K-2 63-67), Brian Knabel (10U-59), Jayden Vizgaudis (10U-62), Ryker Roberts (10U-93, Lula-May Hilliard (Girls 3rd-5th-67), Elijah Topete (12U-70), Michael Rice (12U-86), Titus Whitehead (12U-100), Gibson Morgan (14U-131), Darin Ware (14U-140), and Atrayewe Brown (16U-125).

And 11 more placed fourth: Jacob Hilliard (10U-59), Julian Huang (10U-63), Grayson Morgan (10U-84), Brayden Nelson (10U-93), Isley Ware (3rd-5th-67), Jordyn Turnquist (Girls 3rd-5th-99), Jacob Miraglia (12U-78), Archer Bogar (12U-115), Nicholas Schultz (12U-135), Anthony Soeby (14U-84), and Eli Garcia (14U-225).

“The coaches are doing a great job getting these kids ready for the state tournament and the kids are responding,” TCWC coach Jay Terry said.

The club will head to Spanaway on Sunday, when it will be participating in the WSWA Ford Dynasta Den at Bethel High School.

Mat Rats’ Fish and Wait qualify for Oregon Wrestling Classic

Kyler Fish and Triton Wait both had excellent performances at the Metro Oregon Classic Qualifier in Newberg, Oregon, on Saturday, finishing first and second to qualify for the Oregon Classic.

Fish (14U 105) was able to claim victory in his bracket, while Wait (U10 93) battled to make the championship match and went on to finish second.

Both wrestlers will return to Oregon next weekend for the Oregon Wrestling Classic in Redmond, Oregon.

“The entire Mat Rats family stands behind them as they aim to bring home glory,” Mat Rats coach Tyler Rascas said.

Back in Washington, the Mat Rats had an impressive showing at the Thurston County Folkstyle Tournament, placing fourth as a team.

Addie Ojard (Girls 3rd-5th 70), Triton Wait (10U 93), Kyler Fish (14U 110), Connor Rapp (14U 155), and Liam Walter (USA Junior 138-144) celebrated victories in their respective divisions.

Nine others — Juniper Thomson (Girls K-2nd 53-57), Alexander West (8U 45), Myryn Philips (10U 63 & 12U 63-67), Camryn Reeson (Girls 3rd-5th 82-85), Carter Hedden (14U 84), Lillian Montat (14U 155), Aleece Ballif (Girls 6th-8th 87-91), Chloe Gelvin (Girls 6th-8th 108-115), and Connor Rapp (16U 138-144) — placed second.

Eight others — Parker Fish (10U 71), Kale Kinerk (10U 105-120), Aliya Penner (12U 63-67), Tucker Eisenmann (12U 74), Duncan Weaver (12U 86), Kimber Wait (12U 108-115 & Girls 6th-8th 108-115), Kaleb Sutton (12U 135), and Gabriel Rose (16U 138-144 & USA Junior 138-144) — finished third.

And eight more — Kane Ragsac (8U 49), Juniper Thomson (8U 56), Triton Wait (12U 92), Cassius Wait (10U 105-120), Tucker Eisenmann (14U 75), Carter Hedden (12U 82), Kataleana Warner (14U 100-101), and Charlie Wheeler (14U 115 & Girls 6th-8th 108-115) — placed fourth.
