Wasson Leads Field, Tigers Undercut Wolves

Centralia’s Von Wasson beat the field by 10 shots to take medalist honors, and the Tigers won out over Black Hills on Wednesday, beating the Wolves 240-252 in 2A EvCo play.

“They just punched the greens yesterday, so putting was really difficult,” Centralia coach Hal Gronseth said. “But (Von) hit the ball probably as well as he ever has in a match. He probably had two or three putts that he would’ve made if the greens hadn’t been punched. To be under par with the greens being punched and to be able to stay focused with a tough situation like that was pretty phenomenal, even for him.”

Behind Wasson, Colby Christensen shot a 46, Tucker Weaver carded a 52, Caden Fitzgerald finished on 53, and Brady Sprague ended at 54.

Luke Fenner led Black Hills – and finished closest to Wasson – with a 45 on the par-36 course. Malcolm Meierbachtol came in at 46, Jack Casler shot a 47, Luke Verlangieri carded a 54, and Ripley Shumacher shot a 60.

Black Hills will go to Grays Harbor Country Club to take on Aberdeen on Thursday, while Centralia will return to its home links to host W.F. West on Friday.
