Detectives with the Washington State Patrol are asking for the public’s help locating the driver of a semi-truck involved in a hit-and-run collision that severely injured a 29-year-old Tenino man on Interstate 5 in Pierce County on April 4.

Chad A. Buckly was traveling northbound on I-5 near Lakewood at about 3 p.m. Friday, April 4, when the crash occurred, according to the state patrol.

Buckly’s 2013 Audi Q5 struck a barrier on the left side of the roadway, sending the vehicle back across the freeway where it was struck by a semi-truck, according to the state patrol.

The truck left the scene without stopping.

Buckly’s vehicle came to rest on the left shoulder, partially blocking the HOV lane.

Buckly was transported to Tacoma General Hospital to be treated for his injuries. His vehicle was totaled in the crash.

The roadway was blocked for an hour and a half.

“Witnesses have so far been unable to provide investigators with any information that may lead to the identification of the fleeing driver,” the Washington State Patrol said in a news release on Friday, April 11.

The state patrol asks anyone who witnessed the collision or may have more information regarding the fleeing semi-truck or its driver to contact Detective Brooke Bova at brooke.bova@wsp.wa.gov or 253-538-3202.
