Taking home the even split after a short road trip north to Mason County, the Rochester baseball team lost its first game to Shelton, 5-2, before coming back to win the second game, 4-2, Wednesday afternoon in 2A Evergreen Conference action.

In Game 1, the Warriors were tied with the Highclimbers for most of the game, and took a one-run lead in the bottom of the fifth, but gave up a four-spot in the six to fall, 5-2.

Braden Hartley got the start on the mound and was strong through five innings, but let a couple of walks and errors lead to a tough sixth inning.

Hartley went 5 2/3 innings, allowing four runs, with three earned, on four hits and seven walks, with nine strikeouts. Henry Gramelspacher pitched an inning and a third in relief allowing one hit, one earned run, with a walk and three strikeouts.

Tate Quarnstrom hit a solo home run, and Hayden Pietras knocked in the Warriors only other run in the first game.

“It was a good game, both teams competed very well,” Rochester coach Brad Quarnstrom said.

In Game 2, the Hyde Parrish threw a complete game on the hill, allowing just two runs on six hits and two walks with one strikeout in a 4-2 win. Ethan Rodriguez went 2 for 4 with a run scored, Tate Quarnstrom added another RBI on a base knock, and Kole Smith went 2 for 3 with a two-out RBI base hit.

“We had some good timely hits,” Brad Quarnstrom said. “That was good to see, and Hyde pitched his guts out, he showed some true grit and some bulldog in him for sure. He pitched phenomenal, today was a great outing.”

The Warriors will take on Black Hills on the road Friday, weather-permitting.
