Warriors Shut Out Wolves Behind Demers' Dominance

Needing just seven hits to plate five runs, and holding Black Hills to a goose egg in each inning, the Rochester softball team took home an important, 5-0 win against the Wolves Monday afternoon to stay alive in the postseason race in its second-to-last regular season contest.

The win means that the Warriors matchup against Centralia on Wednesday at home will be a win-or-go-home game for both squads. The winner of Wednesday’s game will make the 2A District 4 tournament, while the loser’s season will be over.

In Monday’s win, Layna Demers threw a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits, walking just one, and striking out six in a dominant day from the circle. The sophomore also hit a 2-RBI double, and Jessa Lenzi went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI to help lead the way at the plate.

Black Hills was led by Zoey Theophilus’ complete game, with the senior giving up seven hits and five runs, with three earned, on seven walks with six strikeouts. The senior also went 1 for 2 with a walk drawn, and Emma Arko and Kailey Miller each recorded hits.

The Wolves are eliminated from district contention, but could play spoiler against Tumwater in their season finale on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. in a rivalry game. The Warriors and Tigers, meanwhile, will play for their seasons Wednesday in Rochester at 4:30 p.m.
