Suffering its first loss of the season, the Rochester softball team gave up back-to-back two-run innings late to fall to R.A. Long Friday afternoon at home, 4-3.
The Warriors led 2-0, Jessa Lenzi scored in the first inning off a sacrifice fly and then scored again when Kassidy Byrd singled her home, but couldn’t keep it rolling.
The Warrior bats fell quiet in the fourth and fifth innings, and a one-run response in the bottom of the sixth wasn’t enough to overcome four combined runs for R.A. Long in the fifth and sixth innings.
Kaylei Clark had a strong start for Rochester in the circle, going four innings and striking out six with no runs scored on three hits and four walks.
Byrd had a strong day at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a run scored and two RBIs, with Layna Demers adding an RBI and a walk and Lenzi going 3 for 4 with two runs scored in the leadoff spot.
The Warriors play another Greater St. Helens league squad in Ridgefield next Tuesday on the road for their next game.
