Centralia sophomore Von Wasson shot a two-day score of 145 to lead all local golfers with a second-place finish on Day 2 of the 2A District 4 Boys Golf Tournament at Riverside Golf Course on Thursday.

Wasson shot a 75 on Day 1 on Wednesday to enter the second day in fourth place, then shot a day-best round of 70 on Thursday to vault to second place. Woodland’s Dane Huddleston was district champion with  a 138.

State tournament allocations are still being decided, so golfers will not know if they qualified for state until next spring, when the tournament is held. In past years, the top 17 from District 4 have qualified for state. This year, it could be boosted to as many as 20 to 25, Rochester coach Eric Holmkvist said.

Also most certainly qualifying for state was W.F. West freshman Ben Halverstadt, who placed sixth with a two-round score of 153. Centralia senior Cole Wasson placed ninth (161), Tumwater junior Kaden Clark was 14th (165) and Tumwater junior Reagan Broome was 16th (167).

Those who are in the gray area of qualifying for state are Tumwater sophomores Gabe Johnston (171) and Nolan Campbell (172), who placed 18th and 19th, respectively. W.F. West senior Tukker Rosbach could also qualify after placing 21st (174).
