Mossyrock blasted out of the gates on fire and the Vikings delivered a straight-set beatdown to visiting Naselle (25-11, 25-19, 25-20) in 1B Columbia Valley League action on Thursday.

Hailey Brooks started out serving seven-straight points, including four aces, to give the Vikings a huge boost right off the bat. Paige Houghtelling then hammered six kills in the first set as Mossyrock never looked back.

“It was a great start to the first set and set the tempo of the game,” Mossyrock coach Alex Nelson said.

Payton Torrey led the attack with 15 kills on a blazing .378 hitting percentage. In comparison, Naselle hit just .009 as a team.

“Really impressed with Payton tonight,” Nelson said.

Setters Erin Cournyer and Caelyn Marshall each tallied 14 assists and were praised for their tight passing, for keeping balls alive and for placing serves for the Vikings’ hitters.

“One thing I’ve been preaching is passing and serving, and  thought we did a pretty good job with that tonight,” Nelson said. “Really great victory over a really good team.”

The win marks a victory over Mossyrock’s greatest league challenge and clears the way for the league title.

The Vikings (9-1, 7-0 league) heads to Toutle Lake on Monday for a non-league match.
