The Mossyrock volleyball team took down Napavine in four sets on Tuesday, winning 26-24, 25-16, 23-25, 25-20 in a non-league matchup.
Four different Vikings tallied at least 10 digs, including Taylor Schwartz, who led the way with 32. Adyson Barrows tallied 17 digs and eight kills, while Kendall Cournyer logged a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs.
Brooke Schwartz tallied 10 digs, Calliope Schultz dished out 30 assists, and Leah Contreras added nine kills.
The Vikings were inching closer to a sweep in the third set, when they led 16-6, but Napavine’s Lilly Grabinowski went on a serving run that led to 12 straight Tiger points.
“I called a timeout,” Napavine coach Monica Dailey said. “Reset them, got their focus back to where it needed to be. Then Lilly hit her serves, and they were out there and did the things they needed to do.”
Grabinowski didn’t miss a serve all night, and she added four aces, all of which came during that run. She also had 24 digs.
Makalay Brett had 12 assists and three aces while also serving 100 percent, while Lilly Blaie added 18 digs, eight kills, and six assists.
Ava Ondong tallied eight digs and five kills, Kennedy Purvis collected nine digs and five kills, and Sophia Bittner recorded five assists. Dailey commended Bittner’s consistency setting the block, and she was also proud of the way her defense battled against a strong hitting Mossyrock team.
“I felt like we were able to dictate a little bit where we wanted to go,” Dailey said. “I thought the girls did well channeling the ball. Overall, I was very pleased.”
Mossyrock (4-1) will head to Onalaska on Thursday, while Napavine (2-4) will head to Toledo on Monday. Both games are non-league matchups.
