Vikings Take Third in District

Regional bids were already clinched and district titles were already out of reach, but the Mossyrock boys basketball team now heads into Selection Sunday with momentum, beating Columbia Adventist 67-48 to take third at the 1B District 4 tournament.

The Vikings had to take an early punch, giving up 20 points in a high-scoring first quarter. After that, the defense started to go to work in the second quarter before clamping down entirely out of halftime, holding the Kodiaks to just 12 second-half points to run away with the win.

Zackary Munoz lit things up from long range to lead Mossyrock on offense, going 5 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to a 27-point night. He also led the Vikings with 10 rebounds for a double-double, dished out four assists, and had three steals.

Easton Kolb added 17 points and came close to a double-double of his own with eight assists. Keegan Kolb put up nine points, and Cooper Young had eight.

Mossyrock — with its third-place district finish and a second-place finish in the 1B Columbia Valley League — will go into Sunday waiting for its State marching orders. The Vikings have an outside shot at a top-eight seed, which would guarantee them a place in Spokane, but if they land between Nos. 9-12, they’d host a loser-out regional matchup.
