Vikings Run Roughshod Over Eagles

The Mossyrock girls basketball team pitched multiple quarter-long shutouts Thursday, demolishing Three Rivers Christian 82-7 in a 1B Columbia Valley League matchup.

When the buzzer on the first quarter sounded, the Vikings led 31-0. TRC managed four points in the second quarter, before Mossyrock blanked its guests again in the third.

Six Vikings finished with more points than TRC, led by Payton Torrey, who poured in 19, including going 3 for 5 from beyond the arc. She also logged four rebounds, five assists, and five steals. Behind her, all three of Mossyrock’s Marshalls — senior Caelyn Marshall, sophomore Delaney Marshall, and freshman Renzy Marshall — pitched in eight points. Freshman Mckenna Torrey had seven.

Abbie Lovan and Chesney Schultz both had five rebounds to share the team lead.

Every player got after it defensively and offensively, diving for loose balls, rebounding, and just playing as a team,” Mossyrock coach Autumn Moorcroft said.

The Vikings took that notion — of everybody pitching in — quite literally. All 11 players to suit up got the ball into the basket, and 10 grabbed at least one rebound.

“It was a great game to get everyone some minutes and gain some confidence,” Moorcroft said.

Elizabeth Romanillos scored all seven of TRC’s points, hitting a pair of 3-pointers and a free throw.

Mossyrock (2-0, 1-0 1B CVL) will get a non-league test Saturday when it faces Rainier.
