The Mossyrock girls basketball team didn’t come out of the gates fast Wednesday in Ilwaco, but the Vikings did what they needed to do to get out with a 42-39 victory.
“Once we settled in, we played better,” Mossyrock coach Nick Rashoff said. “I was proud of the girls' effort … We battled through.”
The Vikings trailed by eight after the first quarter, but they got back within one by halftime and took the lead heading into the fourth.
Taylor Schwartz iced the game with a pair of clutch free throws in the final seconds.
Maci Rashoff led the team in scoring with 18 points, while Chesney Schultz added 11.
The Vikings (1-0) will play their first home game of the season on Monday when they host Tenino.
