Mossyrock used an eight-run third inning to outdistance Quilcene for a 15-5 non-league victory in five innings at home on Thursday.

Junior Hailey Brooks smoked a three-run homer in the second inning to lead the Vikings’ offense, finishing 2 for 2 with a double and three walks. She also had the walk-off walk to end the game in the fifth.

Addison Barrows was 2 for 3 and Erin Cournyer was 3 for 3 with three doubles.

“We’re starting to attack the ball more at the plate,” Mossyrock coach Keith Coleman said. “Even on a cold day, we still hit the ball hard.”

Cournyer was also solid on the mound, striking out six and walking four in four innings. Jolee Hadaller tossed the final inning.

Most of Quilcene’s runs came during a three-run fifth inning that extended the game, fueled by two Viking errors.

“Defensively, we played well, other than the two errors,” Coleman said. “But they’re learning and you can actually see them developing over the past two weeks.”

Mossyrock (5-2) hosts Onalaska in a non-league matchup at 3 p.m. on Friday.
