On Saturday at Centralia College, United Way of Lewis County hosted 270 kids for a gift giveaway, with each receiving a new toy and book from Santa Claus.

Community partners also in attendance handed out resource information materials. Those were Valley View Health Center, Family Education & Support Services, Red Cross and Centralia College.

“We had many volunteers who made today possible along with our staff members, Christian Bruhn, Jamie Cline, Paula Almanza and myself,” wrote United Way of Lewis County Community Impact Director Chastity Pennington in a Saturday email. “Our board member Maria Ayers was also present, keeping the gift giving organized and moving.”

According to a previous news release from the organization, a “generous” donation of toys and books from a nonprofit “Save the Children” made the event possible. The giveaway was intended for families in need and all were welcome to receive presents until supplies ran out.
