Two seriously injured in Grays Harbor County plane crash


A plane crashed at the Ocean Shores airport mid-afternoon Saturday, leaving a man and a woman injured. The plane crashed about 100 yards from the airport on the bay side in the marshlands near the airport soon after 4 p.m.

Ocean Shores Fire Department Assistant Chief Mike Mandella confirmed that the small aircraft had two passengers, both of whom were injured in the crash. The female passenger was in critical condition when fire, police and residents arrived on-scene; firefighters were able to remove her from the crash, stabilize her, and hand her off to Life Flight aircrew for medevac to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The man was extricated from the wreck and transported to Harbor Regional Health for injuries, Mandella said.

Mandella praised residents, including Mayor Frank Elduen and City Administrator Scott Andersen, for coming out and assisting responders in extricating the passengers from the crash.

The cause of the crash is unknown. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash, Mandella said. The scene is being blocked off to preserve it for crash investigators.
