A woman was transported to the hospital for medical treatment after jumping into the Skookumchuck River to try and rescue a pet dog that was swept away while the woman and her group were taking senior pictures at the closed Schaefer County Park on Monday.

The Riverside Fire Authority responded just before 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 6 and rescued the woman, but the dog was still missing.

Riverside was called back just after 4:10 p.m. on reports that a man, identified as the father of one of the people taking pictures in the park earlier that day, had jumped into the river to look for the lost dog. Crews found him with the dog safely on the riverbank further downstream.

The man did not require medical treatment.
