Two Goals Enough For Napavine at Toledo

The traveling crowd wasn’t even settled into its seats at Ted Hippi Field when Napavine broke onto the scoreboard, but that early goal proved to be the game-winner as the Tigers came away 2-0 winners over Toledo on Wednesday.

Less than 60 seconds into the game, Napavine’s Ava Wilson got control of the ball in the attacking third and struck a long shot toward the net. Toledo keeper Daphnie Bybee got in front of it, but her parry went straight back to Wilson, who banged the rebound home to make it 1-0 in the first minute.

That would be the entirety of the first half’s scoring. Come the second, Napavine would double its lead in the 58th minute, when Hayden Kaut jumped in front of a short Toledo goal kick at the top of the 18-yard box and won the ensuing one-on-one to double the lead.

Bybee finished with seven saves on Napavine’s nine shots on target. On the flip side, Toledo managed just one attempt on frame all night long – it was saved by Danielle Tupuola.

Napavine will take a trip to the beach on Monday to face Ilwaco. Toledo (0-5-1) will get a week off before facing Winlock next Wednesday.
