Twin Transit Rolls Out New Routes

Posted

New routes announced this week by Twin Transit will allow local residents to connect with Intercity Transit in Tumwater, meaning travelers will be able to reach Olympia, Lacey, Aberdeen and beyond, according to a press release.

The entirely new fixed routes signal the end of flag stops, according to the agency, which said the changes were made using extensive ridership data.

According to Twin Transit, the routes are designed to “provide better, more comprehensive service where it is needed most.”

The routes , which will be color coded, connect with all major medical facilities and area schools.

“The new route colors were selected to match local school colors,” Twin Transit wrote in a press release. “For example, the West Centralia route is orange for Centralia High School. East Centralia is blue for Centralia College and Chehalis is maroon for W.F. West High School. These colors show Twin Transit’s support of education and pride in our area’s schools.”

The changes go into effect May 3.

The new routes will also come with expanded hours. Fixed route service will operate from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends.

The bus routes will all connect at the new Mellen Street e-Transit Station.

“This recently renovated hub will provide ample parking, vanpool and carpool access, electric car charging, and bicycle and pedestrian access,” Twin Transit wrote. “It will also be equipped with wave induction charging to power Twin Transit’s new electric buses, which are scheduled to arrive in May.”

Twin Transit also recently expanded the service area of its Dial-a-Ride transportation service (DARTT). DARTT now includes the cities of Centralia, Chehalis, Napavine, Morton, Pe Ell, Mossyrock, Toledo, Tumwater, Grand Mound and Olympia. Passengers can combine DARTT rides with fixed route service to achieve their transportation needs.
